August is flying by, and it has been another busy week around Chebacco Lake.

From the launch of a brand-new CLWA website to neighborhood gatherings along the shoreline—and four young ducklings getting closer to their first flights—there has been plenty happening around the lake.

Here’s a look at some of this week’s highlights.

The new website represents a major step forward for the Chebacco Lake & Watershed Association and brings more of what’s happening around the lake together in one place.

Visitors can find current lake news and updates, water quality and stewardship information, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, lake history, resources for residents and visitors, community updates, and much more.

A tremendous amount of volunteer time has gone into creating the new platform, and our hope is that it becomes a useful, welcoming resource for everyone who lives on, visits, or simply loves Chebacco Lake.

There’s still plenty more planned, too. We look forward to continuing to improve the site as the community begins using it.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the neighborhood block party on August 1.

It was wonderful to see neighbors reconnect, meet new faces, spend time by the water, and simply enjoy a summer afternoon together.

Events like these are a great reminder that one of the best things about living around Chebacco isn’t only the lake itself, it’s the community that surrounds it.

Gilligan, Ginger, Mary Ann, and Lovey seem to change almost every day.

They’re now fully feathered, which means they’re getting closer to another major milestone: their first flights.

We’ve been letting them out each day to explore, become more comfortable with their surroundings, and spend time on the lake. Once they’re able to fly confidently, they’ll have the freedom to come and go on their own.

They went for another swim this week and ventured a little farther than usual. Apparently they decided they had gone far enough, because before long they were racing back toward familiar company.

Our hope remains the same: that when they have the freedom to choose where they go, they decide that Chebacco Lake is home and become familiar faces around the shoreline.

Watching them grow from tiny ducklings into confident young ducks has been an incredible experience, and this week’s video shows just how much they’ve changed.

August may be moving quickly, but there’s still plenty of summer left to enjoy.

Whether you’re fishing in the early morning, paddling along the shoreline, swimming on a warm afternoon, taking an evening boat ride, gathering with neighbors, or simply stopping to watch another Chebacco sunset, these are the weeks that make lake life special.

We hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy them.
