Chebacco Lake has been cared for by dedicated volunteers for decades. Every water quality sample collected, every invasive plant removed, every educational event hosted, and every shoreline cleaned is possible because members of our community choose to give their time. You do not need to be a scientist, angler, or lifelong resident — just someone who cares about preserving one of the North Shore’s treasured freshwater resources.

Ways you can help
Volunteer opportunities
Water Quality Monitoring
Assist with water sampling, temperature readings, Secchi disk clarity checks, algae observations, weather documentation, and lake condition records.
Invasive Species Monitoring
Help identify, map, and report invasive aquatic plants before they spread further around the lake.
Wildlife & Nature Observations
Submit sightings of birds, fish, turtles, amphibians, mammals, insects, rare species, and nesting activity.
Shoreline Cleanup
Join seasonal cleanup events to remove litter, storm debris, and unwanted materials from public access areas and shoreline locations.
Event Volunteers
Help with event setup, registration, greeting visitors, parking, children’s activities, food service, photography, and cleanup.
Photography & Media
Capture wildlife, sunrises, sunsets, fishing, boating, events, storms, ice conditions, and seasonal changes for CLWA materials.
Education & Outreach
Assist with presentations, educational booths, school programs, newsletters, brochures, social media, and website content.
Citizen Science
Support lake temperature tracking, rainfall observations, lake level notes, ice-in and ice-out records, harmful algae reporting, and weather observations.
Administrative Support
Help with data entry, membership records, grant research, fundraising, communications, design, website updates, and document organization.
Technology Volunteers
Support website improvements, GIS mapping, database work, software development, mobile apps, photo editing, drone imagery, and data visualization.
Students & groups
Community service and group volunteering
CLWA welcomes high school students, college students, Scouts, civic groups, community service organizations, and corporate volunteer teams. Volunteer hours may be documented upon request, and many shoreline cleanup and community event roles are family-friendly.

A coordinator contacts you
Someone from CLWA will follow up to discuss where you may be the best fit.
You receive training if needed
Specialized activities such as monitoring or field observations may include training before participation.
You are matched with opportunities
Some activities are seasonal, weather-dependent, or tied to specific projects and events.
